Cross-flow filtration

Cross-flow filtration is a dynamic process in which the liquid is not pressed vertically through the membrane - as is the case with dead-end filtration - but flows parallel to the filter surface. This tangential flow creates a shear flow that prevents deposits and protects the membrane from clogging. In this way, the filtration process remains continuous, stable and efficient. The method is primarily used in the food, pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, where it is used to clarify liquids and to separate and concentrate particles and molecules.
