2D & 3D enclosure planning comprises the systematic design and documentation of enclosures for industrial automation systems. It includes the spatial arrangement of PLC components, power electronics, terminals, fuses and auxiliary devices as well as the complete electrotechnical documentation in accordance with DIN EN 61439. Modern CAE software such as EPLAN Electric P8 or AutoCAD Electrical enables end-to-end planning from circuit diagrams and terminal diagrams to three-dimensional visualization. The planning forms the basis for standard-compliant enclosure construction and efficient commissioning.

Functional principle

2D planning creates standard-compliant circuit diagrams, overview diagrams and terminal diagrams with clear equipment identifiers in accordance with IEC 81346. 3D planning supplements this with the spatial visualization of all components, wiring routes and mounting points in the virtual enclosure model. Thermal calculations, EMC requirements and maintenance accessibility are already taken into account during the planning phase. The software automatically generates parts lists, cable lists and production documents. Collision checks and space optimization reduce planning errors and speed up production considerably.
